Pablo Ramón Sanchez (born August 18, nicknamed "Secret Weapon") is a recurring playable character in the Backyard Sports series. He is often considered to be the best all-around athlete and teammate. He is known for his good sportsmanship and his natural ability to lead.
Appearance
1997-2001
Pablo is bald, has tan skin, and wears a white shirt with a red V-neck collar; his shirt doesn't cover up his stomach. He has a yellow cap with a blue rim that he usually wears backwards although he wears it frontwards in the Backyard Baseball games.
2002-2005
Pablo's skin is now brown, and his hat's color has been changed to purple.
2006-2009
Pablo's hat is now blue, and he always wears it frontwards.
2010
Pablo's appearance changed drastically in Backyard Sports: Sandlot Sluggers. He wears a Cubs hat and grows some hair on his head. Pablo looks more like a Latino kid in the new game.
2015
Pablo's hat is now red, and he has gotten a brown tan.
Personality
Pablo is typically upbeat, confident and positive, but mostly toward himself. He knows how good he is. Examples of which being him saying goodbyes to the ball whilst stepping up to bat, before even swinging the bat, and blaming the bat, instead of taking responsibility for it, when he strikes out. His cockiness goes unnoticed by his teammates, however, due to him speaking Spanish.
Skills
Pablo has really good all-around stats and because of this he is a fan favorite. He has all the power needed to hit home runs at almost every at bat and has a good arm in football and has one of the hardest shots in Backyard Hockey. He's also a speedy character making him a pro in more ways than one.

You won't hear Pablo saying much other than "nice game", right after his team wins. He is the silent, unbelievable type that somehow knows when, where, and how to do everything. He's great at playing shortstop; Pablo knows the position's importance to the team.

Quien es mas macho? He's small, always wears a baseball hat and doesn't speak much English, but he sure can play. Even though he's one of the shortest players in the league, he commands full size respect. Pablo has great coordination, and runs fast, but don't try to rub his tummy, he doesn't like that.

You can't call him the 'Secret Weapon' anymore. With his blinding speed, deft ballhandling, and deadly outside shooting, Pablo has made a name for himself. Just call him 'The Weapon' now.

Finally, a sport where Pablo has a weakness! Do not, under any circumstances, play Pablo at the center position. Instead, try him at guard, where his dead-eye shooting, slick ballhandling and lightning-fast quickness might be some use to you.

Trivia
- While Pablo normally speaks Spanish, he can secretly speak English as well. In the SCUMM games (save for Backyard Basketball), clicking on Pablo while holding the Shift key will cause Pablo to say a line in English.
- In the original Backyard Baseball, he states that he learned Spanish in school.
- This was a joking line by the developers, because they couldn't find a native Spanish speaker to voice him, as Dex Manley only learned a bit of Spanish in school.
- In the GameCube version of Backyard Football, while introducing himself on his player card, Pablo translates his introduction to English.
- In the original Backyard Baseball, he states that he learned Spanish in school.
- Pablo's theme song is a remix of the Spanish paso doble song "España cañí". Although the other characters' theme songs were replaced in Backyard Baseball 2005, Pablo kept his theme until Backyard Football 2006.
- Curt Casali of the San Francisco Giants used Pablo's theme as a Walk-Up song.
- In Backyard Skateboarding, Pablo mentions in Spanish he doesn't know why his nickname is "Secret Weapon".
- In an interview with the creators of Backyard Baseball, design lead Mark Peyser stated that Pablo's nickname was inspired by the 1976 film Bad News Bears. Pablo is short and unassuming with his pot belly, and at first glance doesn't seem to be much of a baseball player. Hence, he's the "Secret Weapon". However, once the skills of each player were revealed and it was apparent that Pablo's skills were no secret, Peyser commented, "OK, well, that whole secret thing was a dumb idea".[1]
- As acknowledged in Basketball 2004, basketball is the only sport where Pablo has a weakness. His height makes it difficult for him to play center.
- During the 2007-2010 era, Pablo doesn't speak Spanish like he does in the classic era. He speaks Spanish again in the mobile games, starting with Backyard Sports Baseball 2015.
- Pablo, Tony, and the Webber twins are the only four Backyard Kids to appear in every game, although Pablo is the only character to be playable in every game, with the latter three being NPCs in Skateboarding.
- Recently, a Pablo Sanchez looking bat has been made, and as his theme song, the few of the MLB players use it. Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals uses it.
- In the Sandlot Sluggers and Rookie Rush games, he is the captain of the team called the Big City Bears and plays his home games at the "Sandlot" field.
- According to Mark McGwire's bio in Backyard Baseball 2001, Pablo has an older brother named Manuel, who is nicknamed "Babe", referencing legendary MLB player Babe Ruth.
- Pablo's favorite color is white.
