Backyard Soccer, known in PAL regions as Junior Sports Football, is a children's sports game developed and published by Humongous Entertainment for the Windows and Macintosh operating systems in 1998. It is the second game in the Backyard Sports series and the first in the Soccer series. In 2001, the game was ported to the PlayStation by Runecraft, Ltd and published by Infrogrames.
Gameplay[]
Single Game[]
For a single game, the player can go to the pick-up window, and select one of eight fields. The player and a computer "player" each select eight characters, and the two teams play a scrimmage at a select difficulty. The player can also play a game using a season team, where they can play against other CPU teams.
League Play[]
In league play, the player alone picks eight players from the thirty backyard kids to enter into the Backyard Soccer League. The Backyard Soccer League (BSL) is a league containing 3 divisions of 8 teams each. The player's team first starts in the B Division. After 14 games, if the player's team is either first or runners up, the player rises up (promoted) to the A Division. After either finishing first or second in the A division, the player is promoted to the Premier Division There, if the player's team finishes first in this division, the player is able to qualify for the Astonishingly Shiny Cup of All Cups Tournament, facing 15 other teams from around the world. Winning the tournament unlocks Mr. Clanky as a playable character in Single Play.
At any division, if the player's team is first to fourth midseason, their team has the option to enter the Off-The-Wall Indoor Invitational, an indoor tournament with 7 other teams.

Power ups are special advantages the player's team can unlock during a match for a limited time.
- Bowling Ball: The bowling ball powerup makes the ball really heavy so that the opposition is instead knocked over from the ball.
- Cannonball: The cannonball allows a shot on goal to be taken from far away.
- Homing Ball: The ball's direction is directly controlled by the player's mouse cursor.
- Undergrounder: The Undergrounder allows the ball to be kicked through the ground making an easier scoring opportunity for the player's team.
