Backyard Sports has had several websites since the franchise began in 1997. Most incarnations of the website included game information, hints and tips, Adobe Flash games, "goodies" such as wallpapers and screensavers, and a bulletin board for players. When support for Adobe Flash ended in 2021, some of the sites' content was rendered inaccessible in the Internet Archive without the use of the Ruffle emulator. Archives of these websites can be seen at the References and External Links section or by clicking the footnotes next to the respective line. Sometime around August 2024, a new website was created for the Playground Productions reboot of the series.
Humongous era[]
Humongous website (humongous.com)[]
In the official Humongous Entertainment website at humongous.com, there were a few press releases for Backyard Baseball before its release.[1][2]. A minigame, known as the Backyard Baseball Tag' M Out game (also known as hitme2) is also archived here but due to most of the images not being archived, the game is in a broken state.[3] Backyard Sports content also appears in a few issues of the Club Humongous Gazette.[4][5]. Sometime during mid 1998, the website offered some wallpapers for the then-upcoming game, Backyard Soccer.[6] The website also has a "Junior Sports Channel" active during a short period from 1998-1999, where users can see game strategies, wallpapers and coloring pages.[7]
Backyard Baseball Dugout (juniorsports.com)[]
The Backyard Baseball Dugout, located at juniorsports.com, was the official website of Backyard Baseball. It was active in late 1997.[8] The site notably featured a question-and-answer page called "GoochTalk" [9], where Humongous staffers posing as Sunny and Vinnie answered questions sent in by kids. One section chronicled a Humongous Melonheads season.[10] Later in 1998, around the release of Backyard Soccer, the website was shut down. All of the images in this website were not archived.
Junior Sports Network (jrsn.com)[]
The Junior Sports Network website was re-launched at jrsn.com in 1999. The Junior Sports Network on the internet was a website where people who had copies of Backyard Football and Backyard Baseball 2001 can register names for online play. The website offered a forum-like service called "The Sidelines" where people discussed sports, organized online multiplayer matches and vote on polls.[11] A good handful of posts were archived here.
Humongous Sports (humongoussports.com)[]
In 2000, the official website moved to a new URL, humongoussports.com. The site included a section called "inside scoop" which contained developer interviews and concept art, known as "baby photos".[12] Another section, "The Sidelines", was a bulletin board for Backyard Sports players. The "Ref Darby's Deal" section contained Backyard Sports-related fan fiction, poetry, and jokes sent in by users.
Minigames[]
The site was also home to several Flash minigames:
- KiteSkiing: the game probably focused on Tony Delvecchio, due to his face appearing in one of the links to the game;
- Batting: a flash minigame tie-in with Backyard Baseball 2001, possibly a batting-practice or a home-run derby game;
- Passing: also known as Football Mania a flash minigame tie-in with Backyard Football[13]
- Soccer: also known as Super Soccer Blowout, a flash minigame tie-in with Backyard Soccer: MLS Edition, it is a Pac-Man style game where you collect soccer balls;[14]
- FieldGoal: also known as Who's The Best Kicker? With Amir, a flash minigame tie-in with Backyard Football with a field goal-type situation.[15]
Unfortunately, every game except for Passing, Soccer, and FieldGoal weren't archived and is now lost media. Passing and FieldGoal were the only games to be migrated to the Infrogrames Kids website at funkidsgames.com and are therefore archived there. Soccer was archived on humongous.com.
The site was active until July 27, 2002, when the URL began redirecting to Infogrames Kids, and later, Atari's website.
Atari era[]
In early 2006, Atari relaunched the website at backyardsports.com. The site featured a section called "All-Star Team", where users can sign up to enter contests and receive cheats for the games.
To commemorate the release of Backyard Sports: Sandlot Sluggers, the website was completely redesigned in 2010. The site included a comic book prologue to the game's story.
Day6 era[]
The sixth incarnation of the website first appeared in December 2014. Initially, the website consisted of a single page where users could enter a contest to win autographed equipment and jerseys. The site launched in full in January 2015. The site's Gear section listed merchandise for sale. The merchandise included codes that, when scanned into the games, awarded new characters or extra power-ups. The How-To section provided tutorials on how to scan the codes.
Around April 2016, the site's content was replaced with Pablo saying, "Hola! We're just taking a break to recharge. We'll return to the Backyard in a few..." However, by October, the website went offline.
Playground Productions/Backyard Sports LLC era[]
In August of 2024, it was announced that the Backyard Sports series would be rebooted with Playground Productions as the publisher, along with a new website to celebrate. It resembles the treehouse from the Humongous Entertainment generation of games.
The "Playground Productions" sign leads to Playground's website, and the "Backyard Sports" website leads to the Backyard Sports Instagram page. Clicking on the window goes to a prompt to sign up for a newsletter. Clicking on the computer plays the reveal trailer, clicking on the headphones plays a randomly selected song, clicking on the Melonheads hat goes to the merch shop, clicking on the bulletin board goes to the blog, and clicking on "CARDS" plays a video of the 1997 Backyard Baseball "Meet the Players".
In 2025, the website was updated to add more content, including a header, a menu button, and sections advertising the re-released games.
